As we commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Puerto Rican uprising of June 12–14, 1966, the Puerto Rican Cultural Centers Business Economic Development Initiative will honor the enduring pillars of Puerto Rican self-actualization and economic empowerment on Paseo Boricua.
This recognition will include two major initiatives: the creation of a mural celebrating these community pillars and a social media campaign highlighting their legacy and impact.

The above legacy businesses have been selected for this special recognition.
These businesses were chosen because they have served the Paseo Boricua community for 20 years or more. They represent the spirit of Puerto Rican resilience, self-actualization, and economic empowerment in the face of historical disenfranchisement and ongoing gentrification.
Like the legendary phoenix rising from the ashes of the 1966 rebellion, these community pillars have helped ensure that our neighborhood continues to rise stronger, prouder, and more vibrant with each generation.
