April 3 marked Ricardo Jiménez’s 70th birthday. Decked out in an exquisite aquamarine tailored suit, selected to echo the color of the Puerto Rican flag, the former Puerto Rican political prisoner celebrated the momentous occasion with dozens of family, friends, and community members.
In emotional remarks that began with a remembrance of his mother, Lydia, whose birthday was the same day, Ricardo, looking not a day over 50, recognized the presence of his sister Norma, nephews Tito and Willy, PRCC executive director José E. López, and several former political prisoners including Oscar López Rivera, Carmen Valentín, Edwin Cortés, José Luis Rodríguez, and Félix Rosa.
The celebration was organized by Professor Michael Rodríguez Muñiz and a supportive team, who indulged Ricardo’s request for a DJ and dancing. He spent much of the evening happily breaking in his new shoes on the dance floor, enjoying his red velvet birthday cake, and soaking up the love and admiration surrounding him.
