Two years ago, a family of nine children were left without their mother because she was gun down for speaking up against drug dealing in her community. Since then, Community as a Campus resource coordinator Monica Lozada has worked to support the family. We are now happy to report the children were relocated to a new home and are receiving mental health support and one child will be graduating from high school and the oldest is now working.
They now live in a new location and are receiving support from the Puerto Rican Cultural Center family. There are so many people to thank in this long journey to a new home and a process of healing. Thanks to Daniel Cruz of Chicago Housing Authority, Natalie Lising, Jennifer Peppers, Julissa Ortiz students at The Chicago High School for the Arts and Nurturing Niche for their support. Now the Hernandez family are doing well, thriving and healing daily.
